Colin Farrell fought hard to make his version of the smoking tobacco Penguin in Batman (2022), but failed
Plot
Following the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, is playing a game of dominance over Gotham’s criminal underworld. Aside from the bat signal in the final shot of the season finale, we never got to see our Robert Pattinson star in “The Penguin.” In this short video, IMDb attempts to answer: Where the hell was Batman?
The DC Studios logo is set in a rainy Gotham alley
For his own series, however, the character is depicted as a casual smoker with a penchant for cigars. The umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros.

logo. The first episode is a direct sequel to Matt Reeves’ Batman and I imagine those who haven’t seen it will be a bit lost.
It also captures the aesthetic and dark tone of the film nicely, although the series has many more moments of sly levity than the film
However, I watched Batman a while ago, and this series did a great job of quickly reacquainting me with where the movie left off without getting bogged down in a didactic recap. As in Batman, Colin Farrell does a great job of portraying the Penguin as a stereotypical “street” mobster: rough, profane, tough, and quick to violence; but also smart, cunning, and able to read people.
So far, though, it’s off to a great start
While the character has absolutely nothing to do with the comic book version, he’s interesting in his own right. I have my doubts about the show giving the Penguin a teenage sidekick; and I don’t know if the Penguins’ machinations will be enough to sustain an entire season.
